Exfoliation is an integral part of maintaining beautiful and healthy skin.
Techniques may vary but the benefits of exfoliation are many. First,
exfoliation removes the skin's surface of any dirt or oil residue by
rubbing off the upper most layer of dead skin cells. This prepares the
skin for subsequent treatments or allows the skin to more effectively
absorb or react to products utilized in treatments that follow such as
moisturizers or cleansers. Another benefit is that exfoliation helps to
stimulate and circulate lymph fluids which aid in the elimination of
toxins. Also, the scrubbing motion serves as a stimulating massage and
improves circulation which has been found to help diminsh the appearance
of cellulite.
The entire body should be exfoliated once or twice per week but even a
quick 5 minute scrub per day is healthy and helpful. Use a circular
motion, starting with the feet, ankles and legs, then working on the
hands, arms and shoulders, gradually working your way down the back,
then up through the torso towards the heart. A cool water rinse after
exfoliation removes any residue and will further activate blood
circulation throughout the body. Pat dry and follow your scrub with one
of our great body butters, or silky soy lotion for new and soft skin.
